What to Know About the 9th World Kungfu Championship

So what is it?

This year’s 9th World Kungfu Championship will be held in Emeishan, China(close to where I used to live!). It’s important to note that this tournament is different from the WWC(World Wushu Championship), as the events will all be traditional at this championship. If you guys have the chance to attend, its a good idea as this is the highest level of competition for wushu in the world!

Important Considerations

This year, it will be held from 8/23 to 8/28, which unfortunately means many in the U.S. will have already started school at that time. I might still skip school to compete though. Another important change to what many will find as conventional is the age brackets. Unlike other domestic tournaments, the age brackets are extremely big. If I remember correctly, competitors ages 13 and up will compete with those under 18, and 18 and up will compete with those as old as 35! There are also no skill brackets, so beginners will compete with veterans, should be interesting.

Conclusion

If any of you guys reading this can compete, I would highly recommend, as it would be a great experience to work on your wushu skills. There’s more information on the International Wushu Federation website.
