Introduction to Wushu Films

Kung Fu films rose from the waning of wuxia films, which mainly focused on flashy fight scenes using special effects, usually set in fantasy. Earliest examples of these films stem back to the late 1930s. These films focused on zhen gongfu, or real kung fu, choreographed action sequences which look more realistic than their wuxia predecessors. The genre reached new heights in the 70s along with Hong Kong’s economic boom. This blog will cover the recent history of wushu kung fu films as well as its future trajectory.
